While the standard lyrics are as follows, the tune and beat can be set by each one of us as per our rhythm choice! Question: Who are YOU? Answer: I am Ramu. Q: That is just your name, but 'Who are YOU?' Ans.: I am a man. Q: That is your gender, but 'Who are YOU?' Ans.: I am a successful professional. Q: That is just your occupation, but 'Who are YOU?' Ans.: I am a 'Rotarian'. I am a husband, a son and a brother too! Q: Those are just your relationships, but 'Who are YOU?' Ans.: I am a Hindu, a Brahmin, and a vegetarian. Q: That is your sect and food habits. But, 'Who are YOU?' Ans.: I am a South-Indian, a Tamilian. Q: That is just a place, from where you hail from and the language you speak, but 'Who are YOU?' Ans.: I live in peaceful Pune, at such and such address. Q: That is just a place where you presently reside, but 'Who are YOU?' Ans.: I have a good deal of knowledge in various schools of philosophies and scriptures. Q: These are just your accumulated knowledge, but 'Who are YOU?' Ans.: I have all the latest gadgets. I travel with my family to popular holiday resorts. I lead a comfortable life. Q: Those are what you have amassed and indulge to amuse yourself, but 'Who are YOU?' Ans.: I have an intimate group of influential friends of much means. Q: They are just with whom you identify and interact with, But, 'Who are YOU?' Ans.: I have had shattering disasters in my life. Q: Those are your sorrows, about which you sulk and self-pity. But, 'Who are YOU?' Ans.: I am this particular body structure. Q: This is just your form. Loss of a limb or an eye does not reduce your sense of ME in you. But, 'Who are YOU?' Ans.: I am the 'Atman', the indestructible SOUL, which is in fact the BRAHMAN! Q: That is what you have been taught to repeat by your religion and also in that, by a particular school of philosophy, the 'Advaita'. But, 'Who are YOU?' Ans.: I DON'T KNOW...I...REALLY...DON'T...KNOW! Yes, this exactly is the fact! The ultimate irreducible point. The state of 'NOT KNOWING'. There is really no "Entity" there, even to "Know", the NOT KNOWING. Truly, there is no-thing in particular either singularly or collectively as "ME" and "I". The "YOU" is born, only out of "ME". All those above listed features and attributes are mere images and identities. An unchecked fundamental error of identity impulse, has been weaving these network of complex notional identities. 'I AM', is the unchecked notional error. Pondering into this labyrinthine issue of existence has deep cleansing effect! When the fire of AWARENESS burns down the entire "Personal" identity edifice, what remains is only an intelligently functioning creature, in a moment-to-moment existence. Sri Bhagawan Ramana Maharshi had graphically illustrated this intriguing challenge as follows: "A wooden stick, which is used to rekindle the funeral pyre, ultimately gets consumed by the very same fire, which it was kindling all along! Likewise, the fire of pondering, finally consumes the enquiring identity itself. Not only the 'Questions' disappear, but also the very QUESTIONER also tracelessly disappears! Until then, the pondering should be kept finely rekindled!
