1 Vairagya The usual meanings attributed to this word are 'Unattachment' and 'Dispassion'. When a human being encounters in his/her daily existence a series of ever multiplying conflicts, in the initial stage they try their best to solve those oddities. At this stage, one is quite ignorant of the inherent nature of these conflicts. The outside world is perceived as the reason for the hardships that one is encountering. Hence, the whole emphasis of the humankind is to struggle constantly, until the conflicts are solved. Though one is unconscious of the true reason, the fact is, as we try to solve the problems, we also seem to be endlessly encountering "newer-problems". The naivety of human mind is unable to quickly discern that though the problems appear new, they are essentially the same! But, in the process of living, life's daily lessons, work on our naivety slowly yet steadily. None can avoid learning such lessons. Sooner or later, the 'message' reaches home! We SEE the real cause. This profundity alters one's attitude radically, in relation to the value based worldly contents of daily life. This radical inner state is termed as 'Vairagya'. 'Vai' = Beyond, Shun + 'Rag' = Likes and dislikes. Thus much before 'Unattachment' and 'Dispassion', the mind has to go beyond the snares of values based likes and dislikes.
